Amateur Rugby League: Bright spark Mick Sigston illuminated Undercliffe's Rhodes Booth Ramsbottom Bradford Cup first round win over Dudley Hill Eagles at Parry Lane on Friday night.
After only 15 minutes the floodlights failed but the Undercliffe scrum half had the answer.
He used his expertise as an electrician to fix the fault and the game was able to continue.
"Everyone was pretty fed up when the lights fused about half an hour into the game," said 30-year-old Sigston who works for a Bradford-based electrical contractors.
"I went to have a look at the control box and I managed to stick two plastic forks into the electrics which made them come back on again.
"It must have been my lucky night as I went on to score a try and we won.
"I've been back to the ground since to finish off the job of fixing the floodlights."
Fittingly he celebrated with one try and made another for winger Darren Holmes as his side made light work of their rivals and clinched a 40-16 win.
Richard Cousens (2), Russ Sigston (2), Tim Hunt and Jason Wood also posted touchdowns while Hunt (2) and Wood (2) kicked goals.
West Bowling brought Birkenshaw back to earth with a bump as they raced to a 68-0 win.
The West Bowling pace and tackling ensured an easy passage to the second round.
Jason Woolham led the rout with a personal haul of 24 points from a try and ten goals.
Steve Gregory (2), Andy Leek (2), Lee Hutchinson (2), Julian Key, Dean Garside, Matthew Whitaker, Ady Priestley and Steve Pryce added tries.
Queensbury took the opportunity to rest a number of players but still ran in 34 points without reply against Wibsey Sedbergh.
'Bury never looked back after winger Simon Marsden scored a try in the opening minutes.
Wibsey defended well to restrict the home outfit to 10-0 at the break but they could not keep up the momentum in the second half as Bury turned on the style.
Further tries came from Martin Potts, Nathan Varley, Darren Brown and Danny Wilcock. Steven Gallagher scored a try and kicked five conversions.
Scrum half Gareth McKinley and hooker Ben Mason were outstanding for Queensbury.
Clayton were too good for Wyke as they ran out 48-0 winners. Stand-off Scott Pendlebury gave a masterly performance scoring a hat-trick of tries.
He was joined on the score sheet by Damian Hunter (2), Bob Keeble, Chris Parkinson, Craig Pickthall and Chris Swales. Adam Mitchell kicked four goals and ran in a try.
Wyke never threw in the towel and competed for the full 80 minutes. Craig Scott and Andy Burd were their best players.
West Bowling A won a close game 16-12 against Cleckheaton in the Pennine Division Three match.
Sixteen-year-old centre Mark Dunning got Bowling under way with an early try. A further touchdown from Dicky Peel, converted by Paul Ali gave them a 10-0 lead. A late try from winger Wesley Breaton, goaled by Ali, secured the points.
Victoria Rangers continued where they left off last week and were excellent value for the 35-4 home win against Watershed-ding Wanderers.
Second row forward Steve Maycock scored two tries in his first full game for the club. He was well supported by tries from Tony Boase, Dave Wheel-house and Ray Greenwood.
Darren Booth (3) and Phil Greenwood kicked goals while Jason Pounder scored a drop goal and a try.
Queensbury A - undefeated in Division Five - saw off their nearest rivals Lindley Swifts A 24-18. Bury raced into a 12-point lead with touchdowns from Ian Thorpe, Shaun Fallon and Matthew Cooper.
A further converted try put them 18-14 in front and prop Fallon put icing on the cake by side-stepping his way over to score the clincher which he also converted.
Shipley never recovered from having second row forward Tony Binns sent off as they crashed 32-6 at home to Siddal B.
A Mick McCarthy try converted by Steve Ellison gave them hope for the second half as they trailed by the narrow margin of 10-6 at the turn around.
But 12 men they could not compete against a very fast visiting side and were well beaten in the end.
Undercliffe A won 24-16 at Prospect Warriors in Division Six.
They posted four tries through Chris Gardner, Dave Lowram, Mark Joyce and Dave Savage,.
Jason Hoyland (3) and Dave Gardner kicked the goals.
