A plan to put advertisements on wheelie bins in Ilkley has been slammed as "horrific" by councillors.
Bradford Council wants to begin a year-long trial of the revenue-raising ads.
City cleansing officer Alan Baff will recommend Friday's waste management sub committee meeting approves a scheme in partnership with an advertising agency.
Adverts on the Council's new green wheelie bins - which carry the gold Bradford coat of arms - might go on the sides or under the lid.
In a feasibility study 500 companies - including fast food outlets, taxis, supermarkets and travel agents - have been interviewed.
Sub committee chairman councillor Keith Thomson stressed the project was in the early stages but said they believed it had great potential.
He said serious consideration would also go the types of adverts.
But Coun Martin Smith (Con, Ilkley) described the idea as horrific and said: "I think this idea is totally unacceptable. I certainly won't stand for a bin covered in advertising on my property. I can tell you that now."
He said the scheme raised very serious questions about forcing advertising onto people's property.
And Coun Jeanette Sunderland, leader of Bradford Council's Liberal Democrat group and a sub committee member, said: "As a wheelie bin owner, I object very strongly to the Council using it for advertising. If I want to advertise on my property, I will do it and I'll take the money."
