Hockey: Only a disputed penalty corner award inside the final ten minutes prevented Bradford from notching a great home win against English Women's National League Division One leaders Canterbury.
A Bradford player was penalised for knocking the ball away after a free hit had been given, and England set-piece specialist Melanie Clewlow scored her second goal to salvage a 2-2 draw for the front-runners.
Bradford made a start they could only dream about, taking a 2-0 lead by the eighth minute.
Finding surprisingly easy pickings in Canterbury's defence in the opening 20 minutes, the pace and skill of Bradford's Adelle Brown and Sandeep Kaur caused the visitors many problems.
Brown scored a wonderful goal in the first minute, beating three defenders and the keeper before slotting home after a superb solo run.
Her second came from a left-wing cross to the penalty spot, Brown placing the ball just inside the right-hand post.
Clewlow got her first in the 12th minute, predictably from a set-piece. But although Canter-bury dominated in the ten minutes up to half-time and impressed for much of the second half, they had to wait until late for that equaliser.
Bradford's defence must have been pleased to give Canterbury so few opportunities in open play.
Only four points separate places one to six, with Bradford fifth. On Saturday they play their first return league match of the season - at Aldridge.
