Jackpot winner Margaret Remington is starting a new life today as a lady of leisure after packing in her job following last month's million pound Lottery win.

Margaret, 45, and her fiance David Storey, 48, who live in Saltaire, scooped just over £1.4 million six weeks ago.

The couple are due to marry in December and although their wedding day plans have not been altered since the win, they have splashed out thousands so three close relatives can join them for an exotic honeymoon in Barbados.

So far the holiday, originally planned for Blackpool, is their only concession to extravagance, though neither plans to work again. Yesterday was Margaret's last day at Shipley Resource Centre, where she worked as a craft instructor for adults with learning disabilities.

Most of their new-found wealth has been banked but they have paid off the mortgage on their £50,000 terrace home and bought Margaret's father, Raymond, a pair of new top-of-the-range digital hearing aids.

They also plan to buy Mr Remington a new car to replace his second-hand Citroen and are to take their friends Janet and Graham Flack to the Born Free Foundation's glitzy Rumble in the Jungle charity ball in Brighton next year.

Margaret concedes it is likely to be a good Christmas this year but added: "The important thing in our lives at the moment is our wedding and until that's out of the way, nothing else will be thought about.

"Life will change and we won't have to work - people say won't we get bored but we enjoy each other's company and are looking forward to the future. ''
