BUDDING newshounds at a Rawdon school have been busy producing their own newspaper.
Littlemoor News, which is being run by pupils at Rawdon Littlemoor Primary School, has three editors - Catherine Williams, Taras Collins and Rita Prajapati, all aged ten.
There are two reporters from each class - 12 in all - who are responsible for a wide range of interesting news items.
At present the Littlemoor News has a digital camera and scanner but needs a photographer.
The newspaper covers general news relating to the school and prints stories about the wildlife area at school, sports and class work, both infant and junior.
There is a section for jokes, puzzles, poetry, competitions, a letters page, a problem page and a gardening column known as Compost Corner.
Littlemoor News also takes advertising and will probably use photographs in the future
Head teacher Gary White said: "We decided to publish our own newspaper to give the children another interest in school.
"The newspaper will help the children with all aspects of literacy. It means of lot of hard work but the children appear to be thoroughly enjoying doing the work. They are finding it very interesting," he said.
Teacher Sue Law, who is supervising the newshounds said the children had worked extremely hard gathering the news and had found the work 'exciting'.
"They are really enjoying themselves. We are printing 200 copies and we are hoping parents will subscribe to the running costs of the newspaper," she said.
Although Littlemoor News has a large editorial staff there is still room for a sports reporter and search is now on for a pupil who feels he or she would like to cover sporting events and also someone to act as a commentor at various events.
Littlemoor News, which is to be produced each term, is sponsored by Mr M J F Firth, a parent.
