EVERYONE associated with Ilkley Grammar School is hoping David Bullock has cause to celebrate next week.
Mr Bullock, head of Chemistry at the school, will find out if he has claimed top spot in the £10,000 Salters' Prize for Chemistry Teachers.
Last month we revealed how the Ilkley teacher's efforts had seen him secure a place in the last six of the competition.
A spokesman for The Salters' Institute of Industrial Chemistry, said: "Every year there are more than sixty high quality nominations for the prize. The final winner and two medalists are selected after a very searching interview in front of a panel of professionals, academics and industrialists."
The winner receives £5,000, his or her school also receives £5,000.
The medalists receive £500.
"The committee always find the selection of the winner very difficult as all finalists are doing a great job for the children in their classes.
"They make chemistry fun and make it easy to understand. They support their students in obtaining the best possible examination grades at the end of their courses.
"The Salters' are thus anxious to celebrate this good practice and at a time when teachers are too easily criticised to highlight the excellent work that they all do," said the spokesman.
Mr Bullock was nominated for the award by Ilkley Grammar School head teacher Peter Wood. He described his head of chemistry as 'inspirational.'
The award ceremony takes place at Salters' Hall in
the City of London on December 3.
