Non-League: Eccleshill United 3, Hallam 2.

Eccleshill United won through to the third round of the FA Vase in dramatic fashion when they twice came from behind and then hit the winner three minutes from time.

With their side in free-fall after finishing in the top eight of the Northern Counties East Premier Division last season, the Plumpton Park faithful raised the roof at the final whistle.

Still fizzing with enthusiasm after the adrenaline-pumping 90 minutes, manager Ray Price said: "It's a good result all round. It's great for the club and it helps me look towards Tuesday's game, but overall I am more pleased for the lads because they worked for it.

"We beat them in the league in the first game of the season but I said then that they were a good side, so we knew we would have it all to do to win.

"I thought Karl Cochrane and Kevin Megson were our best players and keeper Craig Bates was superb, but it wouldn't be fair to single anyone out because they all did well. It was a team performance."

Former Halifax Town reserve Cochrane found himself in the starting line-up for the first time since arriving at United just a few weeks ago, but he ended the day with a two-goal haul and star status after a mesmerising display.

The tie was very finely balanced throughout but the home side fell behind just before the half-hour.

Their defence bunched up on the right and Hallam produced a cross-field pass which found Mick Goddard and with only Bates to beat he slotted in low to the keeper's left.

The sides were level at the break thanks to Cochrane's first of the afternoon in the 38th minute. His own shot had been deflected for a corner and when the visitors failed to clear he lashed in a fierce angled drive.

The match tipped back Hallam's way when they re-took the lead six minutes into the second half. Chad Colley broke through from midfield, outstripped the defence and produced a neat drag back which gave him time to clip a shot round Bates.

In the 69th minute United snatched their second equaliser. Megson's determination paid dividends when he lashed an angled shot past the outstretched Hallam keeper Graham Baker.

As extra time loomed large United forced an 87th minute corner. Megson delivered the ball to the far side of the area and Cochrane raced in to meet it with a bullet header from the corner of the six-yard box.

Nail-biting moments came in the four minutes of added time but United held on.
