A new scheme to help long-term jobless people learn commercial driving skills has been launched by transport recruitment specialist Driver Hire Bradford.
The training initiative has been set up in partnership with Bradford & District Training & Enterprise Council who will subsidise funding for up to a hundred people a year.
The course lasts 16 weeks and includes full driver training to LGV Class 2, vehicle loading techniques, vehicle safety and all aspects of customer service.
Applicants need to have been unemployed for a minimum of six months, be over the age of 23 and hold a clean driving licence.
All suitable drivers on the course will have a chance to work for Driver Hire Bradford or any of the firms which have supply agreements with the company.
"With the driving industry becoming more regulated and qualified drivers in short supply, we are keen to encourage new people into the profession", said director of Driver Hire Bradford Mike Watson.
"This is an ideal opportunity for people to train for a new career while still claiming benefit.''
Anyone interested in the course should contact the company on (01274) 778544.
