ONE of Otley's most prominent business names is calling it a day and retiring from his town centre shop.
Malcolm Busby, owner of Malcolm Busby Sports in Kirkgate, began a clearance sale in his shop this week as he prepares to wind down.
But Mr Busby - who has been based in the town for 18 years - says the outlet could remain in Otley in a smaller guise after he finally retires next February or March.
"It could be that someone will take over but it will be a smaller operation that continues at the arcade," he said. "However, the shop is for sale and if someone came along to buy it, they could. It's a very good spot for retail."
Mr Busby said many people wanted the sports shop to stay in Otley. "People have come up to me to say they want it to continue for the town, it's good for the town, and I hope it will continue in some shape or form."
Now his thoughts are turning to post-retirement days and travel plans. Mr Busby, who lives in Bingley, said he also had other business interests to deal with.
First, however, there is all the stock to clear. And he added: "There are many millions of bargains to be had for Christmas!"
