MUCH grumbling in the district has been heard from disgruntled parents whose children have to resit the selection test for Skipton's two grammar schools.
While understandable, we have great sympathy with the head teacher, whose mistake caused the problem. It was a genuine error and has caused considerable mortification.
Doubtless there will be cases in which parents of those who fail to land a place at the grammar school claim their child did well in the first test. The appeals procedure is likely to be even more painful than before. The circumstances are unfortunate but the only solution is to ensure that each child sits the same test. We appeal for a little understanding for a genuine human mistake.
