FULLBACK Ben Archibald scored two superb tries as Keighley & Craven Schools pulled off a 26-10 victory over Scarborough last weekend.

Ben, a pupil at Bingley Grammar, was on top form together with Oakbank's Andy Bailey who also scored two tries. Other try scorers wre Chris Roe (South Craven) and Jeff Beale (Oakbank).

Ronnie Hodgson (Bingley Grammar) kicked a goal and had a strong game, backed up by Moshia Shuja in the forwards.

The solid team performance sets them up for their game against Doncaster at Marley (tomorrow) Saturday, followed by a trip to York in the cup.

Cougar Cubs Under-13's beat Illingworth 22-0 after getting the better of a glue-pot pitch. Once the Cubs crossed for the first try things went in their favour and the defence was always good enough to keep the Halifax side out. Scorers in another all round team performance were: Jason Barnes, tim Wilkinson, James Throupe and Paul Hardwick. Goals were added bny Barnes (2) and Shane Walton.

Co8ugar Under-11's travelled to a strong Wibsey team with only 10 men, but emerged with great credit.

Superb handling and clever kicking saw the Cubs dominate the first quarter and they held a six point lead just before the break. After the re-start Wibsey's numerical advantage and injuries to the Cubs took their toll and the home side ran in four tries.

Cougar Cubs 'Pumas' and Celtic Under-12's met in a classic Keighley derby and produced the match of their lives.

The final 16-16 scoreline was a relection of the battle between the evenly matched teams. Celtic produced the early pressure after receiving from the kick-off and after the handover Pumas battered away at the solid Celtic defence. Matthew Langstaff broke the deadlock after 10 minutes of bruising action.

Celtic replied with tries from Broadley and Fouwlds, together with a Storton conversion to lead 10-4 at half time.

Celtic handling errors handed the advantage to Pumas early in the second half, but they returned the compliment and Bowness went on a 50 metre run to score under the posts, with Storton adding his second conversion to stretch their lead to 16-4.

Gavin Duffy scored his own 50m effort with Chris Clough adding the conversion to pult Pumas back in the game. Duffy turned on another 50m break with Clough converting to level the scores.

The new Celtic Under-10's team travelled to Kings Cross, and although they gave a brave performance the result went against them.

Albion Under-16's beat Doncaster 8-0 in a closely fought contest when Jeff Beale made an impressive run beating several defenders to score in the corner. Later Andy Bailey turned home pressure into points when he crossed shortly before half-time to complete the scoring before the break.

An Andy Bailey break of 50-yards was the signal for both sides to get their acts together in thbe second period and the rest of the game was a combination of forceful attack repelled by strong defence from both sets of forwards. John Gibson impressed in both attack and defence.

Bingley Under-14's looked to be in big trouble as Milford ran in four unanswered tries to make the score at the break 0-20.

Bingley started better after the half-time and were soon rewarded when a Tommy Haughey break and pass meant that Chris Feather could open the scoring on his debut for the home side. Milford soon hit back with a converted try of their own but Tommy Haughey scored himself with Peter Bingel adding the conversion. Chris Feather forced his way over and Danny Seaton also crossed the line with Bingel converting Bingley were just four points behind with five minutes to go.

Tommy Haughey grabbed his second try in the final minutes but Bingel could not manage the touchline conversion. A 26-26 draw against the top of the league was a satisfactory result for Bingley and a fair reward for their fightback.

Bingley Under-16's went down to a narrow 14-12 defeat at the hands of Crofton but produced another improved performance. Tries by John Wiltshire and Gareth Lightowler, both converted by Ronnie Hodgson, brought Bingley back into the game after going 14-0 down, they even had two tries disallowed which made their fightback even more impressive.
