It was the usual story in the Craven Football League on Saturday with the score being postponed 11 played 12, bringing the season's total of postponements due to waterlogged pitches to 70 - and that is before the bad weather starts - and to add insult to injury the sun shone all afternoon.

In League Cup First Round matches Cross Hills continued their great form with a 6-2 defeat of Addingham in the Premier competition to move into Round Two. They are on a high at present and must have Embsay, who they meet this Saturday in the league, worried.

Also in the Premier Cup holders Oxenhope transferred their match from their infamous slope to more level climes at Marley Stadium due to a waterlogged pitch and still proved too good for Colne Cricket Club, defeating them 7-0.

In the Division One Cup Skipton Town made an early exit at the hands of neighbours Carleton going down 4-1, while Skipton LMS and Grassington could not be separated even after extra time, the match finishing all square at 4-4.

In the Division Two Cup Horton got lost when they visited Clitheroe United and after going down 2-0 and having a man sent off they probably wished they had not found the ground.

Keighley had a comfortable victory against Skipton LMS, winning 3-0, and they should have had many more goals.

In the Division Three Cup Earby lost 3-1 at home to Skipton Town, Earby claiming that the fact they could not recognise half of the Skipton players helped in their downfall.

Defeated finalists last season Grassington travelled to Lothersdale and completed their first leg of a return to the final with a 2-0 victory. And Waddington after waiting 20 minutes for their opponents to arrive, Cononley having gone to the wrong ground, won 3-0.

All postponed matches will be played as soon as possible or practicable and the draw for the Second Rounds will be made at the next Management Committee meeting.

In the league in the Skipton Building Society Premier Division Silsden displaced Embsay at the top on goal difference after defeating Keighley 6-2 at home, and Haworth came back from two goals down against Cononley to equalise only to commit defensive suicide and concede a third goal and the points in a 3-2 defeat. In Division One Hellifield went top after defeating Bradley 3-2 in a five-goal thriller despite the mud.

Addingham 2 Cross Hills 6

The homesters took the lead early on with a penalty, but Cross Hills levelled when Damien Whiteoak scored a brilliant solo effort. The introduction of sub Paul Schofield and a change of formation saw the South Craveners dominate the second half. Superb one-touch football resulted in Andrew Little firing in at the far post and soon after more intricate football saw him hammer home with his left foot and the visitors' man of the match Adam Smith capped a brilliant performance with a deserved fourth goal. Cross Hills were now creating chances at will and Adam Whiteoak netted the fifth with a penalty after being brought down. Addingham stuck at it and scored a second on the break, but Little had the last word to complete his hat trick, working hard to win the ball and then beating the keeper with a powerful right footer. The names of the Addingham scorers are not to hand.

Oxenhope 7 Colne CC 0

Oxenhope were soon into their stride and opened the scoring and they went on to add a further four goals before the interval. It was much the same in the second half against what Oxenhope say was a very poor Colne team, and although they added two more goals they could really have had many more. Their scorers were James Bailey and David Collier, both two, Steven Potts, Paul Sewell and sub Danny Mitchell. Colne say that Oxenhope were stronger in all departments and deserved to win.
