The youths threw stones at the vehicle belonging to the group Smokie. The band, supporting a charity appeal to help cancer sufferers, was on stage at Victoria Hall. Proceeds from the show went to the Triangle Appeal which was set up by Bingley man John Nevison to raise money for cancer wards at Airedale Hospital, Bradford Royal Infirmary and St James' Hospital in Leeds. Over 300 tickets were snapped up for the event.
Smokie have enjoyed chart success since the early 1970s with hits such as 'Living Next Door to Alice' and 'Needles and Pins'. This was their first gig on home soil since a fundraiser for the Diana Memorial Appeal at St George's Hall in Bradford last autumn.
A Keighley police spokesman says: "The van was on the perimeter road in Victoria Park. There was an altercation with a group of youths. Stones were thrown, causing minor damage to the van. No one was injured."
