Ian - who writes the Keighley News' 'Down Memory Lane' column - has been listed as a 'notable personality' in a new book about the county.
In a chapter called 'Who said that history is dull?' author Alan Plowright reveals how Ian's love of delving into the past was sparked off by his grandparents.
The book, 'A glimpse of Yorkshire', represents a new venture for Mr Plowright whose previous publications were about long-distance walks in England and Scotland.
Mr Plowright, who lives in Baildon, fell in love with Yorkshire when he moved to the county from Nottingham-shire 30 years ago. This weekend he will be at a book signing session at W H Smith in Keighley, from noon-2.30pm.
Mr Plowright says: "Ian's knowledge of Yorkshire and its history is second to none. He also has a reputation as an outstanding public speaker. I just had to feature him."
The book also looks into the lives of Yorkshire characters Harvey Smith, Hannah Haux-well and Luke Casey and features a section on Henry Jen-kins who reputedly reached the remarkable age of 169.
A Glimpse of Yorkshire is published by Moorfield Press, price £9.50.
