A hospice is getting a massive boost thanks to a record-breaking walk organised by its Shipley-based support group.
Last year's sponsored walk across Morecambe Bay sands raised almost £5,000 for Manorlands at Oxenhope.
Members of the Shipley Support Group for Manorlands had hoped to match that this year but were staggered when the event generated almost double that total.
Sponsorship money and donations have been trickling in ever since the eight-mile trek in August, now amounting to a final total of £9,300.
The money, along with another £1,700 raised through other recent events, is to be presented to Manorlands matron Ann Chamberlain by support group chairman John Chambers during his organisation's annual Christmas dinner tomorrow night.
Led by the Queen's Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson, the walk offers people a rare opportunity to hike across the bay - he is the only person qualified to lead walkers over the sands and because of the tides the times when the trek can be undertaken are few and far between.
A total of 250 - including Telegraph & Argus journalists Mike Priestley and Catrina Dick - eventually took part.
It is hoped another walk will be staged next year.
