Rugby Union: Driffield 17, Bradford & Bingley 14.

Driffield came from behind to clinch a cracking top-of-the-table Thwaites North Division Two clash in the final minutes.

Bradford and Bingley, 14-6 ahead after 48 minutes, succumbed to a Jim Iveson penalty in the 77th minute.

The East Yorkshire side, who led the Bees only on points difference before the kick-off, were behind after eight minutes when, in a flowing three-quarter move, Mark Coultas and Mark Thomas drew the defence for left winger Jeremy Marr to squeeze in for an unconverted try.

Full back Iveson narrowed the gap with a 13th-minute penalty, and then saw his pack take command as they hammered at the Bradford and Bingley line.

On rare excursions into the home half, the Bees gained penalties in the 19th and 36th minutes, which Matt Inman converted.

Despite all Driffield's possession and forward domination, they trailed 11-3 at the break, and were knocked out of their stride completely as the Bees started the second half at a terrific pace. However, Iveson reduced the lead with a 43rd-minute penalty. Inman replied five minutes later as the visitors stretched their lead to 14-6.

Driffield had several lucky escapes as the Bees launched some searing three-quarter moves, and the home pack were on the receiving end of some fierce forward play.

However, Driffield withstood a 20-minute onslaught which brought no reward for the visitors, and on their first excursion into opposition territory they struck with a try.

A line-out was won in the 65th minute, a break from the tail was unchecked and in the scramble, hooker richard Mitchell-Williams touched down to make it 14-11.

Iveson levelled the scores in the 71st minute as both sides sought a winning score and it came for Driffield after 77 minutes as Iveson landed a great penalty from wide out on the right. The Bees were now out of it and it become a matter of preventing any further score, the visitors being left to rue those missed opportunities.
