A decision by Kirklees Council to allow business and industry on a green field site in Mirfield has been condemned.
Councillor Martyn Bolt (Con, Mirfield) is outraged that factories and offices will be allowed on Mirfield Moor, between Slipper Lane and the A62 Leeds Road, under Kirklees Unitary Development Plan.
The Council's planning and economic development committee agreed to approve the final plan without making more changes.
It has been sent to Environment Secretary John Prescott for approval
Coun Bolt said: "The decision amounts to environmental vandalism.
"We are going to lose a huge swathe of green fields, bounded on three sides by housing and next to playing fields."
l Coun Bolt is planning to set up a forum to discuss ways to celebrate the Millennium in Mirfield and is urging businesses, community groups and fellow councillors to contact him on (01924) 496129.
