Keighley-based athletes helped lead the Bradford Under-11 Sportshall Athletics team to success in the Pennine Games.
Organisers of the event were disappointed with the responsoe of msot middle schools in the Bradford district, put youngsters from Bronte and Parkside Middle Schools, together with young athletes from the Keighley & Craven AC and Bingley Harriers gave the team a major boost.
They scored a total of 239 points, beating Kirklees and Leeds into second and third places respectively. The Bradford Under-11 team came a creditable fourth.
The indoor athletics scene is an ideal way to get started in the sport and a number of senior athletes who are now ranked among the top 50 in the UK started at junior level.
Local success stories include Nicole Crosby in the 100/200metres, Suzanne Roberts in the hammer, Leone Dickinson (high jump), Joane Oates (400m hurdles), Anthony Gill (110m hurdles) and Sian Woodcock (walk).
Coaches at the Bradford Athletics Development team are currently searching for new talen to challenge for places among Britain's elite.
"Any youngsters interested in taking up athletics, including the indoor sportshall games, can contact me. I will also be happy to speak to the parents of any young people interested in athletics," said Athletics Development Officer, John Woodcock.
