THERE could be traffic snarl-ups on the main Otley Road through Guiseley when major road works commence in the New Year.
This road is already notorious for traffic hold-ups due to many traffic lights and pedestrian crossings which operate on the road right through to Rawdon.
A spokeswoman for Leeds City Council said: "Resurfacing works are being planned for Otley Road but these will not begin until February and full details will be released nearer the time. Guiseley Football club have been given advance notice to allow us to programme their home match dates into our contractors' schedule and avoid any disruption to the club and spectators".
The resurfacing operation is between the White Cross roundabout at the traffic lights outside the Station public house.
Officials of Guiseley AFC, whose home is at Nethermoor Park, Otley Road, have informed their supporters of the possible problems in their match programme. "During this period, parking on Otley Road will be a major problem and we respectfully ask all supporters to park on the large car park on Netherfield Road opposite the Brooke Crompton factory. It is only a few minutes walk over the footbridge and this will help considerably to ease congestion on match days," said the spokesman.
The club is to provide a steward to be on duty on the Netherfield Road car park before, during and after all games.
