A resident has described how her flat has been hell to live in since a nearby Bradford club became the first in the city to open through the night.

The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, has spoken out as The Boilerhouse in School Street, off Manor Row, applies to reduce its opening hours.

The nightclub made history in April this year when it was granted permission to open throughout Saturday and Sunday night until 9am the following day. In future the club's management want it to wind up at 8am on Saturdays and Sundays and 1am on Mondays.

But that's still not enough, according to the resident who has complained about being disturbed by shouting, noise and taxis and says she has been harassed by early morning revellers.

In a letter to Bradford Council's licensing sub-committee the woman said: "If The Boilerhouse was not in a residential area it would not matter, but it is ... we are disturbed all weekend with cars and taxis constantly coming and going, shouting, fighting, taxi horns blowing at all hours and people staggering and falling about. 3am is long enough to be open in a residential area."

The woman, who said she had written to MP Marsha Singh about the situation, added: "I dare not go out alone when these people are turning out of the club. Unfortunately I do need, on occasions, to go out early and I get my dad to come and meet me to ensure I get to my car without any hassle.

"It is usually 4am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before I get at least four hours unbroken sleep. Since this 24-hour entertainment licence was allowed it has been hell to live in my flat."

No-one was available from the club to comment.

But in a letter which will be read by members of the licensing committee, The Boilerhouse management said they agreed about the amount of traffic noise in Manor Row but said: "The club has campaigned for two years for Manor Row to be access only."

The letter added: "All the alcoholic drinks that are available at The Boilerhouse are locked away, the bars are completely cleared after permitted hours, and I can assure you that no alcoholic drinks are served through the all nighter.

"I cannot, however, vouch for customers who are leaving other venues.''
