Town-centre bosses are looking at how Keighley should celebrate the start of the new millennium. Members of the Town Centre Management Group, made up of shopkeepers, council and other agencies, will make plans in the New Year. They are considering applying for cash from a special Millennium events fund and could organise activities as part of a proposed Children's Festival.
The group will also hold a Christmas 'post mortem' next month and invite businesses and the public to discuss how seasonal trading went. Town-centre businesses say Sunday trading has been busy at the new Hard Ings Road retail park, and this has affected their sales.
At its recent meeting, the group also heard the recent Town Talk newsletter, distributed to 40,000 homes, had generated a good response.
Iain Copping, director of Keighley Business Forum, is likely to address the group in the New Year about both organisations working together. He wants to devise an integrated approach to promoting the town centre and Keighley area.
