WINSFORD UNITED 0
Guiseley 1
GUISELEY picked themselves up after a dreadful performance against Whitby Town in mid-week to take the points on their visit to high riding Winsford United on Saturday. A Simon Parke header decided the game but Guiseley created plenty of chances throughout in a superb display.
The game started with Winsford having most of the possession but Guiseley came more into the game and got on top and produced the better chances.
Stephen Hook returned to central defence along with Matt Daly and Simon Phillips to allow striker Craig Bower to partner Simon Parke up front.
It was Bower who privided Guiseley's first real chance in the 22nd minute when he had a good run which ended with a pass to skipper Des Hazel but the St Kitts international shot over the bar.
Rowland Egege was then in with a chance with a back post header in the 36th minute but his effort was tipped over the bar.
Bower had another good effort and then in the 43rd minute Colin Hunter beat the defence with an excellent run. His chip cleared the 'keeper but unfortunately went wide of the post.
In the second-half Guiseley played up the slope and it did not take them long to grab the lead.
Leading scorer Simon Parke was there to head in Colin Hunter's 49th minute corner for his 15th goal of the season to end a baren spell..
Guiseley tried hard to add to their lead having most of the possession and with Winsford being thwarted by an excellent defence in which 'keeper Steve Dickinson gave a commanding lead.
Although he had little to do shot saving he commanded the defence and made all the right decisions in coming for crosses and punching away.
In the 71st minute Simon Phillips took a free-kick just outside the penalty area and his excellent effort was tipped over by the 'keeper.
Guiseley's last real chance to increase their lead came from the resultant corner but Hazel chipped his effort over the bar.
Late in the game Rowland Egege was injured and James Procter came on as substitute to make his first appearance since his international clearance came through.
Although he did not enjoy the result in his trial game with Scunthorpe Reserves - who lost heavily to Leicester City - Colin Hunter made a good impression and has been asked to go back for further trials.
Manager Bobby Davison, who accompanied him to the game, said: ' Colin did not look out of place at all. He did very well and they want to see him again. The pitch was in excellent condition and he was confident in his touch and did himself a lot of good.'
l Guiseley Reserves' Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup quarter-final against Horsforth St Margaret's had to be postponed due to the state of the Nethermoor Park pitch.
