Keighley teenagers could design an Internet website for Cliffe Castle as part of the museum's ambitious plans to involve local people.

The Greenhead School students are already liaising with museum staff on the new Working Landscapes project.

A £208,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will be spent on upgrading existing displays showing landscape formation, early life and local crafts.

Computers, animation, videos and other cutting-edge techniques will help provide visitors with a more hands-on interactive experience.

Cliffe Castle recently heard that another lottery cash pot, the Museums and Galleries Access Fund, might offer cash to support Working Landscapes.

The museum hopes funding will be given for a staff member to work with the local community, encourage more hands-on access and develop new ways of learning using the museum's exhibits.

Bradford councillors will next week be told that the Access Fund could support similar developments at other local museums and art galleries.

The aim of the fund is to encourage innovative projects which bring more people into museums and get them more involved in the collections.

Council staff are also developing community projects at Bradford Industrial Museum, Cartwright Hall, Bolling Hall and Ilkley Manor House, which could qualify for Access Fund cash.
