A neighbourhood is in shock today following the death of a 32-year-old Otley woman after a stabbing incident.
Police called to a house in the market town during the early hours of yesterday morning found the seriously injured woman.
A police spokesman said officers had gone to the semi-detached house in Newall Carr Road - opposite Otley's Wharfedale General Hospital - at 2.17am and found the woman with serious chest injuries, from which she later died.
He said she had been stabbed. A post mortem examination was carried out yesterday.
Neighbour Christabel Stephenson said Anna and Andrew Stewart, who are both believed to work for William Sinclair and Sons (Stationery) Ltd in North Street, Otley, had lived next door to her for more than ten years.
She said they had two young children, Nathan and Natalie.
"We don't know what happened. It's all a bit of a mystery really. It's just devastating and a real shock - it's really sad."
Local newsagent Alan Widdop, of A & S News in The Gills, said: "Everyone's just really shocked about what's happened - you don't expect it to happen here."
l A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being interviewed by detectives at Weetwood Police Station.
