Angling: Kev Richmond (Eurobait) closed the gap on League leader John Illingworth in the 12th round of the Mouncey League.
Taking full advantage of his end-peg draw on the Cadney Road section of the Ancholme, he worked with pole and squatt, netting 80 small roach scaling 5-5-8.
Pete Dimmock took second with a level 5-0-0 from Cake Mills peg five.
Using long pole and maggot, he netted a mixed bag of roach, perch and skimmers.
Ian Bowman (Barnsley) also did his league chances no harm, taking third place on 4-7-0.
Other scores: Ron Wilkinson (Normark) 4-2-0, Paul Edmondson (Normark) 4-1-0, Alan Taylor (Doncaster AC) 4-1-0.
With three rounds remaining, John Illingworth still leads on 92 from Kev Richmond on 89. Lee Harrison and Ian Bowman, who both have 87, seem to be the only other contenders.
Despite the Aire at Knottingley rising during the Richmond contest, some reasonable roach nets were still to be had.
Arthur Bensted topped the 39-pegger from permanent peg 21 on the Fire Brigade length. Using stick float and maggot, he netted 2.78k of roach.
At the next peg, jovial Jimmy Leach of Goldthorpe took second with a similar net of 2.68k.
Other prize-winners: Paul Golding (Worksop) 1.82k, John Nuttall (West Park) 1.62k.
The weekend's two Leeds events could not have been more contrasting. In the 75-pegger at Thorpe Underwood and Widdington, roach fed well throughout the length.
Dave Pollitt (Team Bradford) was an easy victor with a superb all-roach net of 10-6-0. Drawn on peg 36, he used stick float and maggot for his winning haul.
In-form Martyn Highe (Trews) was in the points again, taking second with 6-13-0.
Other top weights: Kevin Pybus (Yarm) 6-1-0, Bill Collier (Union) 5-13-0, Trevor Hewitt (Glen) 5-10-0, Gary Britton (Glen) 5-1-0.
By the following morning, the river had risen nearly five feet and only eight of the 85 field could break a pound in the Leeds Winter League.
John Matthers had a perch of 2-12-0, plus a few roach, taking victory with a level 4-0-0 from peg 218 on the Bungalows.
A field of 100 contested the opening leg of the Tricast Calder Teams of Four on an out-of-sorts Brighouse canal. Charlie Swallow (Tricast XRS) needed only 3-7-4 for victory. Pegged on the Browns length, he used pole and bloodworm to compile his modest net of small roach.
