Ilkley Harriers have continuted to race over Christmas and have produced some impressive results.
Around 20 Harriers took part in the Chevin Chase fell race on Boxing Day, with particularly fine results from Jason Hemsley just outside the top ten and Malcolm Pickering in the top 20 and leading veteran from a field of almost 900 competitors. Full results are awaited.
The following day Jason Hemsley raced again, this time in the Lake District, finishing 15th in the short Wansfell Fell Race.
Nick Pearce and Pete Shields did a 10k road race at Clitheroe, with Nick 27th in 35.57, and Pete 60th in 39.07 in a strong field of more than 300 competitors.
On New Year's Eve a number of Harriers raced in the Auld Lang Syne Fell Race, a seven-mile race over very boggy terrain near Haworth.
Full results are awaited but Jason was 12th, Nick Pearce 37th just in front of Bob Hamilton and Graham Pearce who took the prize for the first under-18 in the race, followed by Pete Shields, Steve Cockerham in first race for a couple of years, and Chris Porritt.
On New Year's Day, Jason Hemsley and Mike Baldwin did a three-mile road race in Silsden, with Jason finishing first amongst a field of around 50 runners.
The Ovenden Torr Fell Race on January 3, attracted a small but strong field of around 100 runners.
Jason Hemsley had another excellent race, finishing the tough eight-mile hilly course from Ogden Reservoir in 4th place.
Nick Pearce and Bob Hamilton were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the over 40 category, and in 16th and 18th places overall.
Ilkley Harriers is a friendly club and welcomes runners of all abilities.
They meet on Tuesdays at Ben Rhydding Sports Club.
