AS Burley-in-Wharfedale looks towards the next
century, the vice chairman of the village Community Council is looking forward to the challenges ahead.
John Gundry said the Community Council would continue in its quest to improve the village still further.
"Obviously, we are not directly involved with some of the issues in the village, although we are very much aware of them," he said.
"Hopefully the footbridge issue will be resolved. Another planning application has been submitted to Harrogate Council. We shall have to see how that comes out," he said.
Mr Gundry said he was determined to make the
village an even greener place and stated once again his determination to secure part of the Burley House Field for the future enjoyment of all in the village.
The vice chairman of the Community Council said he was looking forward to
continued progress on the
village green extension,
paying tribute to Tom Sumner's efforts with the
project so far.
Mr Gundry said the village did face uncertainty over some issues, including the future of the Scalebor Park site. The Community Council is determined the site should not be transformed into something totally inappropriate for the village.
"I think there are two projects in particular which we can look forward to; the village handbook and the publication of the Village Design Statement," he said.
The handbook, last published in 1996, to coincide with the Community Council's 20th anniversary, will provide a 'what's on' guide to services, entertainment and facilities on offer in the village.
The Village Design Statement will form part of future planning guidance, stating the importance of the appearance and character of the village.
l The next Burley Community Council Neighbourhood Forum is scheduled for March 18.
