DOUGIE LAMPKIN dominated the British round of the World Indoor Trials Championships at Sheffield -- with a storming display.
The double world champion set the standard in the opening round beating Isle of Man star Steve Colley and past champion Marc Colomer of Spain. The win puts him seven points ahead of Colomer in the championship.
The course was designed by Martin Lampkin and featured six tough sections with the popular high jump and two speed events to decide any ties. But the toughest section featured enormous wooden cable drums.
Steve Colley almost came off his machine on t he final drop from the top drum and daring Japanese rider Kenichi Kuroyama fell heavily and sustained serious injuries to both wrists.
He was detained in the Sheffield General Hospital following operations to pin and plate both wrists.
Lampkin was in a class of his own in the final, dropping just four penalty points.
Spaniard David Cobos lifted his new Bultaco machine into second place, just a month after the Spanish company was resurrected after a 20 year absence from the sport.
n This weekend Lampkin is riding in a non-championship indoor event in Koblenz, Germany.
