I hope you all had a really good Christmas and enjoyed the New Year celebrations. I am grateful for the support for the newspaper shown over the last couple of weeks - with changing publication dates and some outlets being open and others closed.
Now, of course, it is looking forward to this year and making preparations for the new Millennium.
Today we have launched a special Millennium information system. The year 2000 is an extremely important milestone, and is a platform for bringing about all kinds of change.
It has to be said that the date change also has its share of problems, such as the Millennium Bug.
As the editor of a local newspaper I feel it is my duty to record as much as we possibly can about the last year of this Millennium and how the area made plans for the next age.
It is already the source of great debate in this office, with staff expressing a wide variety of views - mainly about the accuracy of the date - is it or isn't it the New Millennium?
I really would like you to let us know your feelings, how you plan to celebrate, any special community events you are involved in, your hopes and aspirations etc, so that we can fully record this important happening.
I would like to think that in the distant future a researcher would be able to get an accurate picture of real life in Keighley from our pages, and not just information from pre-prepared PR statements.
Let us make it a year to remember.
