Dodworth 44, Keighley Albion 8

Keighley Albion put up a spirited performance despite going down heavily on their third meeting of the season with this Barnsley side.

Albion could not have had a better start, Simon Kelk opening their account with a penalty which was followed up by a superb break from teenage fullback Mark Ives who put Wayne Smith over for a well executred touchdown.

Kelk converted to give Albion a 0-8 lead.

The fire-cracker opening signalled that Albion had come prepared, and the home outfit came in for some harsh words from their coach, former Great Britain scrum half Paul Harkin.

The home side responded and took advantage of some poor Albion tackling to run up a 20-8 half time lead.

The second period was much the same story as the much bigger home side made their weight advantage count. Albion had their moments, Craig Livock always looked dangerous as did Wayne Smith.

Albion's man of the match award went to Ian Spencer who had a towering game from the front row, and Matt Horne worked tirelessly as ever, but in the end Albion could not contain the big Dodworth outfit.

This Saturday they entertain Hull dockers at Crossflatts.

Littleborough 12

Keighley Celtic A 24

Keighley Celtic A got 1999 off to a flying start in the Shipley Trophy with a fine 24-12 away victory at Littleborough.

The Lancashire side settled the better and went into an early lead with a converted try.

Celtic's man of the match Ben Bibby responded with a penalty and Paddy Martin levelled when he crossed out wide. A 'Boro penalty saw them back into the lead, but the introduction of Barlow and Stott added more punch to the Celtic attack and Barlow crossed to give Celtic a 12-8 half-time lead.

Celtic dominated the second half, a try by skipper Paul Bastow converted by Bibby gave Celtic the breathing space they needed and when Barlow added his second try of the match, after a Bibby penalty, the game looked won.

A late try by Littleborough gave respectability to the scoreline.

Bastow, Ingham and Robinson had good tackling stints for Celtic.
