It was very busy for a lunch time. Large groups of people had pulled up tables and were sitting round enjoying their food and pitchers of beer.

At a weekend The Blob Shop is packed with young people enjoying a night out and it seems during the week the pub is packed with a wide range of folk, young and old, having a pint and a bite to eat.

The pub is relatively new to Bradford and is part of the Yates' chain. It is open plan and quite noisy, so for a quiet and private meal it is not suitable.

Another problem is for non-smokers - there is no area set aside. So it is quite a smoky environment, too.

We ordered our drinks at the bar - a pint of lager and half a bitter.

There was not a wide choice on the menu, but enough to keep everyone happy with a couple of vegetarian dishes and a selection of sandwiches.

It took about 25 minutes for our food to arrive, which is probably due to how busy it was. The service was polite, although I had to ask for the sauces.

We had scampi, chips and peas (£3.50) and chilli-con-carni and chips (£3.25). The chips were big and not too greasy and overall the meal was filling and just right for a lunch time.

The bill came to just £8.95, which included the two drinks, and was definitely excellent value for money.

Pubs normally known as weekend watering holes are often not even considered when it comes to food.

But for cheap and cheerful service, The Blob Shop is recommended.
