Christmas Day celebrations due to be held yesterday by Keighley's Ukrainian association were cancelled because of the flu bug.
It is the first time in 50 years the group has been forced to scrap the reception. It usually follows the mass at St Anne's Roman Catholic Church in North Street, Keighley, which still went ahead.
Ukrainian people celebrate Christmas according to the old Julian calendar, which marks Christmas Day on January 7.
Petro Szczur, President of the Keighley branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, says: "It is a catastrophe and very disappointing but we had no alternative. So many people were hit by the flu it was not worth holding the reception."
There are about 75 members of the association and the reception has been held since 1948, for the last 30 years at the group's base in Mayfield Road, Keighley.
