Peter Beagrie believes the wide array of skillful players in the Bradford City side could prove crucial as the club's bid for promotion gathers pace.

Two fine individual efforts from Robbie Blake and Beagrie were enough to earn City a 2-1 victory in a scrappy game against Stockport County.

The victory did not improve their position but they are now just a point behind Birmingham City and Ipswich Town in fourth place with a game in hand on the two teams above them.

And Beagrie, whose goal was his tenth of the season, said City must look towards the rest of the season full of confidence.

He said:""The manager re-minded me before I went out that I was due a goal but with things going so well recently and the team winning, it has not been that important. But it was nice to grab the winner.

"The game was played in very difficult conditions. Not many teams will go to Edgeley Park and win so we have to be pleased with a result like this.

"It doesn't matter what the situation is - whether it be a footballing game or a real scrap out there - we are equipped for any eventuality.

"We have the willpower to battle out a result but we also have the inventiveness you need when coming up against teams like Stockport.

"As soon as it went to 1-1, a lot of sides would have thought 'safety first, let's drop people back'. But we didn't do that.

"We were so annoyed with having conceded that goal that we continued to attack in the hope of getting that winner.

"We have so many individuals who can turn the game that we always knew we would get a scoring opportunity. That is the big difference between this and last season and why I think we will do well."

Beagrie's goal came from a 20-yard shot but he believes goalkeeper Carlo Nash should have done better.

"As soon as I managed to turn inside I knew he had to stop the shot. I pulled it on to my stronger foot and then scuffed it into the top corner!

"I don't think their goalkeeper will be getting a £1 million move on the strength of that goal. It wasn't a sweet strike but the main thing is to hit the target."

Stockport manager Gary Meg-son was full of praise for the City wideman after his side had been condemned to only their tenth defeat of the season.

He said: "It was exceptional ability that beat us. I don't think we have anyone on our side like Peter Beagrie, with that sort of skill. They only had three shots and scored two goals. It was a great goal from Beagrie."

Meanwhile, City boss Paul Jewell was delighted to see his side avoid the jinx which sometimes goes with the Manager of the Month award.

He said: "I suppose we have buried the jinx of Manager of the Month.

"Stockport is never an easy place to play at. They get the ball in early and try and find Brett Angell but I thought we did very well."
