Little Fezan Hussain is facing two key operations which, for the first time, will give him fingers on his right hand.

The three-year-old was born with an incomplete hand owing to a rare disorder known as Polands Syndrome which prevents the development of some limbs.

A huge effort across Bradford has so far raised nearly £39,000 to enable him to have extensive hi-tech surgery in America.

Now his family are preparing for two operations which they hope by the end of the year will leave him with a complete hand.

They are resting their hopes on more gifts and money-spinning events to help them reach their £60,000 target for the reconstructive surgery to be completed, together with a vital follow-up visit next year. Fezan's dad Zahoor, of Hopbine Avenue in West Bowling, said a thumb was already in place and the next two visits to America would involve splitting bone grafted on to his hand into fingers.

But each operation costs £10,000 and so far nearly £9,000 has been raised for the first, due to be carried out in the summer.

Fezan began nursery classes at Bowling Park First School in the autumn and was bearing up to the trauma of surgery, said Mr Hussain.

"He is really enjoying himself at school. We didn't want him to miss out on that.''
