A COUPLE who claimed to have seen a mysterious object in the sky above Ilkley Moor have received a call from a woman who had seen a similar UFO - almost 71 years ago.

Valerie Fawcett, of Addingham, who with her husband, Gerald, had seen the shape hovering in the sky, said the caller, who was 86 but had not given her name, but lived in Ben Rhydding.

"She said she had seen something similar to what we had described. She saw this object in 1928 and she had told her mother about it. She was obviously a young person then."

The woman, said Mr Fawcett, had not mentioned the incident since that time until she heard of the couple's strange encounter and decided to contact them.

Last week, Mrs Fawcett told the Gazette that she and her husband were in a car between Burley Woodhead and Burley-in-Wharfedale on a clear Sunday afternoon when they saw the object. It had very bright lights on the underside, something she was adamant was not a conventional aircraft.

Mr Fawcett, an engineer, said: "I can absolutely vouch 100 per cent for what my wife saw. We both saw it.

"There were other aircraft in the sky. There was no question of it reflecting the sun, it couldn't do because the sun was behind it.

"The lights were so bright on it, you couldn't identify a particular shape."
