ADDINGHAM ALL STARS 4

THORFNTON U-13s 2

DESPITE the sloping pitch and the cold, strong wind both teams served up a feast of football to warm the spectators in this league cup quarter-final.

Although the All Stars back four of Sam Britton, Bob Shone, Tony Norris and George Harker were outstanding, assisted by some fine saves from 'keeper Tom Fawcett. Thornton deservedly went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The All Stars re-shuffled the team for the second-half. Daniel Fox came on in place of Francis Whitehead and Tom Smith took over in goal to let Fawcett play in midfield.

With the wind driving them forward the All Stars took the game to Thornton and soon pulled a goal back when Steven Perkins, who was a revelation in his new midfield role, scored direct from a corner.

Five minutes later Perkins equalised with a thumping shot after being put through by Danny Connell.

The All Stars kept the pressure on the visitors and took the lead at 3-2 when slick passing between Perkins, Tom Barritt and Connell set up Fawcett to score with a fierce left foot shot. Thornton were struggling to get out of their own half and were being swamped by waves of attacks from the home side.

With 'keeper Smith handling confidently the All Stars defence was rarely troubled and they were well protected by a hard working midfield where Fox and Adam Munday had fine matches.

The home side made the final score 4-2 when a spectacular long pass out of defence by George Harker found Connell who scored with a ferocious shot.Tom Fawcett was awarded Man-of-the-Match.

This was a great result for All Stars manager Nigel Connell in his first match in charge and the team is now looking forward to the semi-final with confidence.

The All Stars are still looking for new players to strengthen the squad and anybody interested in playing should ring Nigel Connell on 01943 831300 pr Steve Fawcett on 01943 831560.
