PHOENIX entertained last week's County Cup opponents, Crag Road United, but could not repeat last week's win.

Crag managed to hold Phoenix 1-0 at half time after Dale Hoyle had headed the Keighley side into the lead.

Phoenix found the Crag Road defence difficult to break down with Wilkinson dominant in their defence.

The introduction of Crag substitute Riley, began to cause Phoenix defence trouble and when a long ball from left back Greaves, caused Phoenix defender Crangle to mistime his challenge on Riley. The referee had no hesitation awarding a penalty which Riley slotted into the bottom corner giving keeper Linyard no chance.

Minutes later Phoenix were awarded a penalty of their own after the referee allowed play to go on when Hoyle was brought down outside the box, only for Bryceland to be awarded a penalty for a foul which only the referee seemed to see.

Ross easily beat the keeper, though Crag immediately equalised when a quickly taken free kick caught Phoenix cold and Riley took advantage to beat the keeper again.

This weekend Phoenix are away to Halifax Irish in the second round of the Premier League Cup (ko 1.45).

Keighley Shamrocks and Steeton both won as they battled to get out of the Division Two relegation zone.

Paul Driver scored twice in Shamrocks' 4-2 victory over Kinsley Boys. he was backed up by goals from Howard Wellwood and G Thompson.

Keith Lowe was on target with a double strike for Steeton as they beat Westbrook Wanderers 3-1. Steve Duffy also hit the back of the net in a frantic second half display.

Steeton 2nds went down 8-1 to Ardsley Celtic, and even Steeton's consolation goal was scored by the Celtic side.
