He began his career with Renfrew Juniors before moving to Falkirk where he played under Bob Shankley's captaincy in the side that won the old Second Division championship in 1935-6 and reached the semi-final of the Scottish Cup in the same season.
Robertson ended his career at Albion Rovers where he played from 1937 until the outbreak of war in 1939.
After the war he was trainer at Albion and also looked after the fitness of Paisley Pirates ice hockey team until he moved to Bradford in the early 1950s.
Following a spell as trainer at Park Avenue, he moved across the city to Valley Parade where he worked under manager Peter Jackson until he left in 1960 to go into private practice as a physiotherapist.
His connection with football continued after leaving City and he scouted for Everton for many years.
He and his late wife Margaret were also stewards at Bradford RUFC at Lidget Green. He was also physiotherapist there.
