A new health centre is set to be built on almost half of Keighley's run-down Scott Street car park. No parking places would be lost because the sale of the land would pay for improvements to the rest of the site.
Ling House Surgery has outgrown its current premises on nearby Skipton Road and needs a new town centre base to serve its 9,500-plus patients. It has asked Bradford council to sell the right-hand half of the car park including unused land at the top.
Highways officers say most of the land due to be sold is unusable for cars, and the remaining land could be better laid out to accommodate more vehicles. Proceeds of the sale would allow areas currently out of use to be flattened and pay for lighting and maybe a second entry.
Officers studied usage of the car park before Christmas and discovered it is rarely full. The council's transportation, planning and design committee is expected to approve the sale on Monday.
