Trojans 4
Wetherby 1
THE Trojans bandwagon rolls on after an emphatic victory over Wetherby put them into the draw for the quarter-finals of the Intermediate Cup.
Despite a couple of late withdrawals which meant a re-shuffle Trojans were soon into their stride and went ahead on 20 minutes when Phil Constantine converted Jamie Davey's long through ball.
Constantine doubled the advantage ten minutes later with an excellent solo effort and skipper Craig Swanston added a third before the break when his long range effort deceived the 'keeper.
The visitors never gave up and reduced the arrears following a corner. However, Man-of-the- Match John Lofthouse sealed the win when he netted late on from Stuart Dibb's pass.
Masham 5
Trojans Res 1
Trojans Reserves returned empty-handed from their difficult trip to league leaders Masham.
Forced to defend for long periods Trojans put up spirited resistance before falling behind when a free-kick eluded everyone and dropped into the far corner.
Trojans almost hit back immediately when skipper Steve Hitchen's 30-yard free-kick slammed against the bar with the home 'keeper well beaten.
Masham extended their lead before half-time and added a third soon after. Trojans were forced to battle for the last half-hour with ten men when player-manager Chris Worts was sent off for hauling down a Masham forward who was through on goal.
The home side added a fourth before Trojans replied with the goal of the game. Young striker Gareth Goodison gathered the ball on the edge of the area and controlled well before drilling his volley into the top corner.
'Keeper Craig Whittaker earned match point, making a number of excellent saves to keep the scoreline respectable. However, he could not prevent the home side scoring again late on.
