People are being invited to take part in a 'journey' from Calcutta to boost a church millennium appeal fund.

An illustrated talk by Charlie Bhowmick taking his audience part way round the world is the latest event for the Keighley Shared Parish Church building fund. The on-going appeal for 1999 aims to raise £30,000, some of which will come from grants. The target is to fund repairs and renovations to the 150-year-old building, taking it into the next millennium.

Recent donations have inclu-ded £500 raised through coins put in the Airedale Centre wishing well over Christmas.

Mr Bhowmick is giving his talk at the church on Saturday, January 30, from 7.30pm. Admi-ssion will be £2 for adults, and £1 for children and OAPs. The price includes refreshments.

Tickets can be obtained from church members or the Grape-vine bookshop, in Church Street. Mr Bhowmick, a well known personality in Keighley, told us: "It will be a smashing evening. I would urge people to come along and support an excellent cause."

Villagers in Eastburn are being asked for their ideas on how to mark the new millennium. They are invited to a public meeting which will be held on Monday at 7.30pm in St Steph-en's Church hall.

Among projects suggested are village boundary marker posts to be designed by local children and new gates for the village playing fields. Anyone interested is welcome.

in forming a committee is asked to turn up at the meeting.
