Guiseley 3

A DOUBLE strike from player-manager Bobby Davison - taking his tally to four goals in four games since his return after a 19 match injury absence - saw Guiseley to victory at Lancaster City on Saturday.

The former Leeds United front man headed home Peter Atkinson's cross in the tenth minute and then put his side 2-0 up in the 39th minute when he slammed in a left foot shot from a Colin Hunter cross.

Hunter was one of two players to leave the field with hamstring injuries and when he could not make the second-half it gave Colin Hogarth the opportunity to come on for his 500th appearance for the Guiseley club.

The other man to go off was skipper Des Hazel and he was replaced by assistant manager Neil Parsley, making his first appearance of the season after rupturing knee ligaments in a pre-season friendly.

In the 75th minute Guiseley's lead was extended when Benn Gallagher chipped the 'keeper from eight yards.

Lancaster pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when 'keeper Steve Dickinson pushed two shots in rapid succession onto the bar and the second time the ball looped up for Lancaster debutant Gary Parkinson to head home.

On a difficult surface Guiseley battled well and fully deserved the points.

Colin Hogarth was picked to join Simon Parke in the UniBond League side for the match against an FA X1 at Stalybridge on Tuesday but at the last minute the game was cancelled.

Guiseley.- Dickinson; Atkinson, Nettleton, Hook, Gallagher; Airdrie, Hazel (Parsley 71 mins), Williams, Hunter (Hogarth 45 mins); Davison, Parke.

l On Saturday Guiseley entertain Gateshead (3 pm kick-off). On Tuesday they are due to play Frickley Athletic at Nethermoor in the third round of the League Cup (7.30 pm kick-off).

The following Saturday, February 6, Guiseley will play their fourth round FA Umbro Trophy tie against either Shepshed Dynamo or Emley (who were due to make a fourth attempt at playing their third round tie last night Wednesday).

GUISELEY RESERVES 1

RUNCORN RESERVES 0

The difficult Nethermoor surface was a leveller in this game and for once Guiseley Reserves had to battle hard fo their result.

Conditions prevented their ususl flowing style but they worked hard and with the benefit of first team squad members Rowland Egege and Matt Daly generally held the upperhand.

Richard Machell was played wide on the left in this game and he almost made his mark with two or three early efforts, one in particular a first time volley which curled just wide of the far post.

Following a foul on Craig Bower Egege hit the free-kick wide and Lee Poole had a shot just over the bar.

Guiseley took the lead when David Hunter - back from Thackley - broke through into the box and fired the ball into the left hand corner of the net after 40 minutes.

Hunter then set up a chance for Richard Machell but the youngster powered his header against the bar.

Runcorn had their chances but were generally well marshalled by Matt Daly and Nigel Muttick was on top of his job when called on in goal.

Guiseley Reserves - Muttick; Hand, Daly, Beckram, Flanagan; Hunter, Poole, Egege, Machell; Jeng, Bower. Subs. Walters, Needham, Clayton, Holdsworth, Webster.

The Reserves are due to make a sixth attempt to play Ashton away on Friday.

Michael Jordan, who has scored 11 goals for the Reserves this season, has gone to join former Reserve team manager Brendan Hudson at Northern Counties East League club Thackley.

The Thackley club this week lost the services of former Guiseley asisstant manager Greg Abbott who was joint manager with Hudson.

Abbott has decided that his work with Radio Leeds and the Leeds United Football in the Community Scheme must take precedence.

Aboott has been sent off three times this season and was facing a ten match ban.

FIELDS ACADEMY 1

After another jittery start Guiseley Academy settled into their stride and enjoyed the lion's share of possession in the first-half without really threatening the visitors' goal.

Fields were lively up front but failed to create any openings, against a Guiseley side lacking a few regular choices, until late in the half when 'keeper Ed Neale had to make two excellent saves.

The second-half saw the introduction of Andrew Nadin for the injured Richard Beckram and this coincided with a remarkable decline in the home side's form.

Fields took the initiative from the home midfield and created a succession of chances. It was only the heroics of Neale in goal and Jon Gallifant in defence that prevented Fields from taking the lead.

Inevitably though Fields got the breakthrough they deserved ten minutes from the end when following a free-kick they turned the ball in at the near post.

Guiseley responded well but had left it too late.

Mark Pollard, a midfielder signed from Farsley Celtic, made his debut for the side.

Guiseley.- Ed Neale; Richard Beckram, Jon Gallifant, Andrew Fishburn, James Elliott; Matt Ames, G Jowett, Matthew Glendinning, Phil Atkinson; Brian Carr, Mark Pollard. Subs used - Andy Nadin, Craig Moss.

The Academy's next scheduled game is the Northern Youth Acaedmy Cup semi-final at home to New Earswick on Sunday, February 7.
