THE last two weeks have seen three very important cross-country meetings for Skyrac AC's athletes. Firstly, in the Yorkshire Championships at Rotherham.
The Under-17 girls were outstanding, taking the county team title with tremendous performances from Holly Grinstead (eighth) and Kath Davey (14th).
The Under-15 girls came close to emulating their older team-mates when Elizabeth Spencer (second) and Stephanie Williams (eighth) led Skyrac to a team second place.
Laura Kirk rounded off a fine afternoon for the ladies when she came in 10th in the Under-13 Girls race.
Pick of the boy's teams were once again the Under-15s where the talented Robert Spencer (second) and T Coates (14th) brought the team home to second place.
In the other male age group races C Miller was 12th in the Under-20 men, Johnny Coen (10th) for the Under-17s and Ian Douglas (fourth) in the Under-13 event.
Club athletes saw further action at the fourth Leeds Schools' League held at Braim Wood.
In the Under-11 girls race Bethany Staniland achieved a personal best place with second, being more suited to the fast course.
Laura Kirk came second in the Under-12 girl's race and Kath Davey also came second in the Under-19 age group.
The boys were also in fine form when C Miller achieved second place in the Under-19 race and Robert Spencer, third in the Under-16 event.
In the Under-12 Boys' competition there was a pleasant surprise for Andrew Staniland, usually a short sprint specialist, when he came in eighth, having been in the first four for most of the race.
The following day many of the above were again donning their spikes when Skyrac hosted the West Yorkshire League at Nunroyd Park, Guiseley.
In the senior men Chris Bryan, who had won previous league races, was nicely placed when he injured an ankle at the stream and had to pull out.
Johnny Coen ran an excellent and challenging course, to achieve third place in the Under-17 men and Robert Spencer ran hard for second in the Under-15 boys. Along with T Coates' 10th place, the Skyrace Under-15 team came in third.
Holly Grinstead (fifth), K Davey (seventh) and Sarah Leigh (10th) made the Under-17 girls clear winners.
The Under-15 girls came in third with fine performances from Elizabeth Spencer (sixth) and Stephanie Williams (seventh). Laura Kirk (sixth) and R Drake (eighth) earned another team third in the Under-13 Girls.
Finally, M Williams ran a gritty race for 18th place in the senior ladies' event.
