Elections for Haworth's first ever parish council could take place in May.
A report produced by Bradford council's area coordinator Patrick Lawton was welcomed and supported by members of the council's community development committee on Wednesday. The recommendations in the report will now be sent to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott who will give a decision on the proposal for a parish council serving the villages of Haworth, Stanbury and Cross Roads.
It is believed a decision could be given as soon as mid March and elections held in May.
During the meeting, Worth Valley councillor Mike Young praised the efforts of villagers in encouraging people to vote on the proposal earlier this month. His tribute was backed up by Smith Midgley and chair of the committee, Cllr Ralph Berry.
Ballot results showed that 93 per cent of people were in favour of the parish council being established.
