Addingham's Bracken Ghyll Golf Club could soon become an 18-hole course, if members get their way.
The decision was taken following a ballot of members. Ninety per cent responded, with 82 per cent voting in favour.
The ballot of members was the culmination of a year's work in negotiation, planning, discussion and presentations to members.
This was done by a small group of club officials headed by Trevor Newman, the 1998 club president.
He said: "The real work is now just starting.
"Bracken Ghyll is a very special club which welcomes all classes of players ,without prejudice.
"The aim was to keep it that way. We aim to build one of the friendliest clubs around as well as one of the most challenging courses."
The aim of members is to take over the club and start the expansion on May 1.
In order to achieve this a number of working groups have been set up.
These groups cover all aspects of the work including planning, administration, finance and marketing.
The marketing group has the task of increasing the membership by one hundred.
