An Ilkley resident has expressed concern about the number of sandwich boards on the town's streets.
And a meeting of Ilkley Parish Council was told a balance had to be struck between public safety and allowing traders to thrive.
They spoke out after Ilkley resident Philip Chinque raised concerns about people having to negotiate sandwich boards in The Grove.
District councillor Anne Hawkesworth said one possible solution was for a number of different traders to have a joint board.
She said it was quite unacceptable to have boards along The Grove advertising goods and shops at the other end of town.
Parish councillor Barbara Cussons said: "We do try to get a balance between keeping the shops viable and keeping the pavements free."
