Motor Sport: Baildon's Steve Patrickson (Helphire Honda) was pipped for a rostrum place in a dramatic finish to round two of the British 125cc Championship at Thruxton.
The 32-year-old had charged up the field to be third after the fourth of the 18 laps, but he was under constant pressure from Darwen's Darren Barton - a member of Robin Appleyard's new team. And a last-corner collision with a backmarker slowed Patrickson just enough for Barton to pip him.
"I had third position in the bag and though I couldn't shake Barton off my tail, he couldn't get by me," said Patrickson. "But right at the last corner a backmarker didn't move out of the way and I hit him. That lost me drive out of the turn and barton just managed to outdrag me across the finish line."
Patrickson is equal second with Alan Green in the title race on 33 points, 17 points behind race winner Pete Jennings. South African Shane Norval - another Appleyard team member - won round two of the 250cc event to be third overall on 25 points.
Russell Spence (Renault Laguna) was eighth in the 36-lap second round of the Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park. He is third in the independents' standings on ten points.
Leeds youngsters Henry Moorhouse and James Dabill stacked up the points at sun-baked Harwood Dale during round two of the Auto Cycle Union National Youth Championship Trial. Moorhouse won Class A, and the 20 points hoisted him to a strong third spot behind Shaun Morris and Sam Ludgate. In Class B, James Dabill was fourth.
Dougie Lampkin starts as firm favourite to win Sunday's British Trials Championship opener at Castlewellan Country Park in County Down. The world indoor and outdoor champion from Silsden is expected to receive tough competition from Graham Jarvis, Steve Colley and Ulster ace Rob Crawford.
Larkspeed Series standings: Ilkley 575.3 points, Sporting Escort 240, North Humberside 233.6, Alwoodley 215.4, Airedale & Pennine 204.2. Next event: Sprint at Curborough.
