Police have issued a warning that a sex attacker may strike again after he abducted a woman as she waited in her car at traffic lights.

Women have been told to be extra vigilant following the attack at about 10pm on Wednesday as the 40-year-old local woman drove along Manningham Lane towards Shipley.

The Asian male approached the passenger side of her green Hyundai saloon car as it was waiting at the junction of Queens Road and Manningham Lane.

He smashed the side window, got into the car and verbally threatened the woman, forcing her to drive up Carlisle Road to nearby Rose Street.

She was dragged from her car into a partially-built house extension and indecently assaulted. The man was disturbed by the sound of voices and ran off towards Heaton Road.

The woman, who was not seriously injured but left extremely distressed by her ordeal, is still being interviewed by police.

A team of 15 police officers were today carrying out house-to-house inquiries and a search of the area.

The man leading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Brian Taylor, said: "This is a nasty attack, not only in terms of the assault, but the intimidation beforehand. The woman suffered a terrifying ordeal which lasted for several minutes.

"She has been interviewed by specially-trained police officers, and is receiving counselling. The attack has left her very distressed and she is finding it extremely difficult to talk about what happened that night."

And he urged the public to be vigilant. He said: "This type of offence is rare and I hope it is a one-off. However, while a man capable of such an attack is still at large it is a possibility he may strike again.

"I would ask women who have to be out at night on their own to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings - especially when in stationary cars."

Her attacker is described as Asian, in his early 30s, slim build, dark greasy hair which was parted down the middle and cut short to his ears, clean shaven with a prominent long nose.

He was wearing a dark fleecy type jacket zipped to the neck and spoke with a Bradford accent.

It is believed he may have known the Manningham area of the city and Det Supt Taylor appealed for members of public who may know his identity, particularly members of the Asian community, to come forward.

Ward Councillor Mohammed Ajeeb, (Lab, Heaton) added: "I am horrified by this attack. I hope whoever is responsible is apprehended as soon as possible because he could be a danger to any member of the community.

"I support the police appeals for information and would ask all members of the local community to co-operate with this investigation."

Police are also appealing for anyone who was in the Malborough Road, Queens Road or Rose Street area of Manningham to contact Toller Lane CID on Bradford 376285.
