Paul Jewell is warning his Bradford City side that they must show patience tomorrow as they bid to leap-frog Ipswich into the second automatic promotion place.

The Bantams entertain a Portsmouth side who have won just once in eight games with Jewell predicting they will play six men in midfield to try and stifle City's attacking threat.

Ipswich do not play their weekend game until Sunday when they travel to Norwich so a victory for City would see them jump up to second.

However the City boss has instructed his team to put Ipswich out of their minds and concentrate on completing the double over Portsmouth.

Jewell said: "We played well down there when we won 4-2 but it will be a completely different game tomorrow. I think they will play six across midfield like they did at Wolves last weekend and try to make it very difficult for us.

"The important thing is we have to remain patient and not lose our nerve. We went 1-0 up against Grimsby and although we never looked fluent, they rarely looked like scoring. It is important we keep our shape.

"Wolves had to keep probing at them last week before they got an opening with about 15 minutes left before going on to win 2-0. We must keep our patience but also play at a high tempo."

Jewell would not reveal his side with Robbie Blake and Dean Windass vying for a place in the attack alongside Lee Mills although he did stress that every member of his squad has a part to play in the coming weeks.

"Against Grimsby, we were nervous but at Bury we took the game to them and more than matched them physically. That was the thinking with bringing Dean Windass in and playing Jamie Lawrence at right back despite Lee Todd being fit.

"Robbie had also missed a lot of training and been under pressure over his father dying, so I decided to rest him. Lee Todd was also unlucky but you have to pick teams to win certain games."
