Granby Phoenix 2 Craven Athletic 8

ATHLETIC stormed to a league cup semi-final victory over Phoenix.

They had already met twice in the league with Craven sneaking home each time, but this time Phoenix felt the blast of a fight-back after Athletic had been heavily defeated int he Keighley Cup the previous week. They bounced back in style and Phoenix had no answer to the awesome display of their opponents.

Craven hammered in three first half goals without reply and went further ahead early in the second half. Phoenix pulled one back only for Athletic to regain their four goal advantage.

Jonal Ali got his second to pull the score back to 5-2, but any hopes of a fightback were dashed as Craven slotted three more goals.

Keighley Juniors Res 1

This semi-final was a much closer affair with extra time needed to decide who would go through to the final.

Juniors set off at a cracking pace and had their opponents ont he ropes, but for all their domination they failed to take advantage, finding the net only once.

Whatever the Skipton manager said at the interval had the desired effect and they came out with all guns blazing. they totally dominated play, but also found the net only once.

Two extra time goals from Juimmy McConville settled the issue, setting up a final between After Dark and Carven Athletic for the third successive season.

Grapes 2

Grapes had the edge in a hard fought cup tie, which was decided on penalties.

The game did not go to extra time, but three penalties were awarded in normal time, one of which Cavendish strongly disputed. The first was awarded to Grapes which they converted for the only goal of the opening period.

Grapes were awarded a second after the break and they made no mistake from the spot.

It was soon the turn of Grapes to be on the receiving end of a penalty award, but Cavendish missed their chance of pulling back into the game. The victory gives Grapes their first appearance in a League Cup final
